Annie + Jake’s Farm Engagement Photos at Rocking Horse Farm

Annie and Jake decided on The Orchards at Rocking Horse Farm as the location for not only their wedding, but their engagement photos as well. While this isn’t something I do often, I actually think it’s a really sweet way to give a preview of your wedding without giving too much away. Couples may worry that they’ll “use up all the good locations” during the engagement session, but what we find is that the photo can feel so different when taken on a different day, in different outfits, with different weather, and a different mindset. Annie and I attended Cazenovia College together, so I was thrilled to not only find out she was engaged, but that she wanted me to photograph her and Jake. The owners of Rocking Horse Farm in Jamesville, NY were so gracious to let us use their space for a photoshoot, and we lucked out with the most gorgeous evening!

We started off by taking photos by the barn. The word “barn” doesn’t really do it justice. It’s a beautiful slightly-modern wood structure with charming doors on each side, a large paver patio, and luscious landscaping chock full of colorful native plants. Everything was in bloom, so we made sure to take advantage of all the flowers before heading down to the pond.

Annie and her family used to come to Rocking Horse Farm to pick out their Christmas tree, so we made sure to grab some photos in the field of evergreens, which felt extra special. The setting sun created a dreamy haze over the field behind them. After that, we snapped some shots in and around the gazebo, which had a stunning view of the entire property.

We wrapped things up with some photos of their hands and rings before calling it a day. The grounds were so pretty, I can’t wait for their wedding. It’s a highly-anticipated day that’s sure to turn out amazing!
