Erin + Keith’s Winter Engagement Photos at Green Lakes State Park
The same thing has happened to me at multiple weddings over the past couple years. A girl named Erin, always somehow related to either the Bride or Groom, would come up to me during the reception and proudly state “as soon as I’m engaged, you’ll be the first to know!” It sort of became our running joke - how often I saw her at weddings, still patiently waiting for her time.
Well, Erin’s time finally came when she and her boyfriend Keith got engaged! And as soon as she let me know, I made sure to get their engagement session on my calendar. I couldn’t wait! We planned to take winter engagement photos in early December at one of my favorite locations, Green Lakes State Park.
A mild November meant some of the fall colors were still peaking through by the time we arrived for their session, and thankfully it wasn’t too cold out. We started out on the dock, then headed further into the park, stopping at some of the best little spots as we passed them. I love that Erin and Keith brought champagne to celebrate, so I grabbed some photos of them sharing a toast in front of the gorgeous gray water.
We veered off toward the Tulip Hill trail, and as we were walking along, Erin and Keith started reminiscing about their trip to the Adirondack High Peaks. They love that area so much, and after getting engaged there, it means even more to them. They kept telling me how much this part of Green Lakes State Park reminded them of that trip.
I found a decomposing log that became the perfect background for some photos of Erin’s ring. After that, we took a few photos near Dead Man’s Point along the lake before heading back toward our cars. We snapped a few final pictures on our way back, stopping here and there as inspiration struck. The sun started peaking through the clouds right as we ended the session, which gave a beautiful glow to the last few pictures.
These two headed into their winter engagement photos kind of nervous, but they blew me away with how amazing they did! Take them as proof that even if you don’t feel super “photogenic,” I can help guide you and make the entire experience more comfortable. You’ll be pros by the time your wedding day rolls around! Speaking of wedding day, I’m so excited to photograph Erin and Keith’s wedding this fall in Potsdam!
