Hannah + Spencer’s Traditional Wedding at SKY Armory in Downtown Syracuse
Hannah and Spencer’s wedding is proof that you can have a traditional wedding while still honoring what makes you as a couple unique. When I arrived at the beautiful Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Syracuse NY, we hit the ground running by starting with their first look. They had an early church wedding ceremony, but knew they wanted to connect and see each other before they said “I do.”
We got Spencer situated in a shady spot in the garden while we waited for Hannah and her bridesmaids to arrive at the church. Hannah walked straight up to Spencer and tapped him on the shoulder, resulting in some very sweet first look photos. I’m so thankful for the quiet time they had together in the garden - it allowed me to capture some relaxed portraits of the almost-newlyweds before the chaos of the day was really underway.
Their church wedding ceremony featured a traditional Catholic mass, and every part of it was perfection (especially with such a breathtaking backdrop!). One of my favorite moments during Catholic ceremonies is when all the guests are coming up to take communion. I love to photograph the happy couple just sitting there chatting, watching, and smiling with joy!
Once the ceremony was done, we did a quick receiving line, followed by photos of Hannah and Spencer with their families. The church has such gorgeous architecture; I’m glad we were able to utilize it as much as possible to commemorate their day.
There was a short lunch break, then we all hopped into the party bus and headed to Upper Onondaga Park for more pictures. This is one of my absolute favorite locations in Syracuse NY, and looking at the photos, it’s no surprise why! The gazebo, pond, and willow trees make for some seriously whimsical images. There are so many areas to explore at the park, so we ended up with a great variety in the end. Hannah brought her sunglasses along too for a chic photo with all the bridesmaids’ florals.
Even though time was limited, we made the most of it, getting a ton of photos with the wedding party, then plenty of great ones with just Hannah and Spencer. Their smiles and laughter made it apparent just how much they had been looking forward to this day!
Once we got back to downtown Syracuse, we had a little downtime in the hotel room. Hannah skillfully pulled her hair back into a braid, which was a great idea given the heat that day. Their wedding crew hung out for a bit and chatted while I grabbed some candid photos. Mary and I ducked out a little early to take detail shots at their reception at SKY Armory. All the little pieces looked great together!
We had a few minutes to grab some additional photos of the newlyweds before they were introduced into the reception. After that, it was a blur of dances, toasts, and desserts. They had a gorgeous floral cake that they cut, then they rolled straight into the shoe game before the dance floor opened up for the evening.
I loved this traditional wedding so much, and I cannot thank Hannah and Spencer enough for including us in it! I wish you both so much happiness!
