Julia's Beach Maternity Photoshoot at Southwick Beach

Julia has been a client of mine since 2019 when I first got to document her engagement to John. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of photographing their wedding, along with family photos with their two boys. What a joy it’s been to experience all of those milestones alongside them. Now imagine my excitement when Julia reached out and told me she was expecting another baby and wanted maternity photos! Not only that, but she had a vision for a beach maternity photoshoot with her and her children, all playing together in the water. How fun!

I immediately knew that we had to do some sunset beach photos at Southwick Beach. It’s clean, quiet, and has the absolute best sunsets on all of Lake Ontario! We started the shoot by wading around in the water. The whole family wore bathing suits, which I thought was a really special way to show off Julia’s belly and honor her body that will have brought 3 children into the world.

Julia’s mom came along so we could pass off the kids and grab some shots of just Julia for her beach maternity photoshoot. She was a great sport - laying on the beach, floating in the water, and having sand rubbed all over her belly by little hands. I felt a little bad asking her to get her beautiful hair wet, but it actually looked great in the end, especially for the shots of her kneeling in the water with the setting sun creating a stunning glow all over the water and sky.

The entire vibe of this session was so effortless. There’s nothing better than just hanging out and letting the photos and poses flow naturally (plus doing it this way puts way less pressure on little ones!). It turned into such a sweet Mommy-and-me session and gave them some family photos to cherish forever.

This entire session only took 30 minutes, which was perfect for Julia and her family. I don’t advertise shorter sessions, but if you think something like this would work better for you, I’m always open to it - just reach out and ask!
