Cassie + William’s Beach Engagement Photos at Fair Haven State Park
Cassie and William hired me to photograph their wedding, and we got right to planning their beach engagement photos. This was the one thing they knew they wanted, and I immediately thought of Fair Haven State Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. These two have been a couple since September 2013, so it was such an honor to document their relationship now ten years in.
Since they’re getting married in April (at the fabulous Tailwater Lodge), a spring engagement session seemed fitting. It ended up being pretty overcast that day, which blew our plans for some sunset photos, but we made the best of it. A lot of people dislike overcast days, but they create these perfectly bright and even photographs, which I love.
As we walked around the beach, I helped Cassie and William move effortlessly into their poses so that nothing felt awkward or unnatural. I always have a set of clear umbrellas in my car (you never know when a rain shower is going to surprise you during a wedding or photoshoot!), and they came in handy for these beach engagement photos when it started to rain. The clear umbrellas are the best because they keep my couples dry while letting all the light through. The rain didn’t stop us, and we made sure to utilize the umbrella in our poses.
Cassie and William brought their basset hounds along to the beach, and they were just precious! We took some time to photograph the happy couple with their fur babies before finishing up with just the two of them. At the end of the session, they walked out into the lake and splashed around. They showed off their very best dip-and-kiss and had a fun carefree time while I captured it all.
Above all else, I want you and your fiance to enjoy yourselves during your engagement session. It should feel like a date! You’re engaged for such a short period of time in the grand scheme of things - you might as well enjoy every moment, just like Cassie and William!
