Maggie + Corey’s Rainy Photoshoot at Beaver Lake Nature Center

Engaged couple embracing near Beaver Lake with a rainbow behind them

Maggie and Corey wanted to schedule engagement photos with me, but finding a time for them to be in town in the midst of wedding planning proved to be tricky. Luckily, they were planning a little weekend visit to Buffalo, and decided to swing through Syracuse on their way back, so we jumped at the opportunity to get their engagement session on the books.

As the day approached, we kept an eye on the forecast, which was predicting rain. I gave them a call the day before while they were on the road to answer a few final questions and finalize our plans for the rainy photoshoot. I was so excited to hear they wanted to go ahead with it, rain or shine, and I assured them my gear would hold up to whatever weather the day threw at us.

We decided to do the session at Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville, NY because they loved the idea of the boardwalk. When we arrived, it was raining, but once we got underneath the tree canopy on the trail, it was barely noticeable. I brought along two clear umbrellas just in case, which make great props when the moment calls for it!

Maggie and Corey were thrilled to see the boardwalk in person. It looked even better than the photos they’d seen, with lush greenery and ferns coming from every angle, and the rain really bringing out the colors in everything.

Once we arrived at the lake overlook, the rain had stopped and we noticed a rainbow. What incredible and serendipitous timing! The happy couple stood together, appreciating the views, then we grabbed some shots of them with the lake and rainbow in the background.

They opted for an outfit change halfway through the session. They said the jeans and black t-shirts felt more like them, and I could see their moods immediately change into a sillier and more carefree couple.

Before wrapping up, we grabbed a handful of additional photos near the parking lot, then parted for the evening and headed to our cars. I left the shoot on a photographer’s high; I never get tired of working with such amazing couples and documenting their love and relationship. Maggie and Corey’s New Year’s Eve wedding at Tailwater Lodge is going to be so special. I can’t wait!
