Non-Traditional Styled Shoot at The Lookout at Greek Peak
This blog post is the exciting culmination of a styled shoot that has been in the works since 2020! I can’t believe we finally made it to this point, and I’m so excited to be sharing some of the pictures from our shoot at The Lookout at Hope Lake, a new wedding venue at Greek Peak. I had so much fun envisioning and planning this imaginary colorful wedding with a team of amazing vendors, all so I could have some new brand photos taken!
It all started in the fall of 2020, when I reached out to Sarah of SHP Brand Bash. I planned to completely overhaul my website with a new design and branding, and I knew Sarah could provide me with some brand images to create a cohesive feel. I envisioned a styled shoot that felt completely untraditional, so my images would attract those types of clients and weddings. I adore them!
But suddenly, the entire wedding industry was dealing with a wedding boom caused by all the Covid cancellations, so planning was moved to the backburner for a while. When the dust settled, we added Megan of MLH Events to the team to handle the design and coordination of all the moving pieces. I’m so thankful for everything Megan did. I had a really broad vision of a black wedding dress with modern and colorful decor, and she executed it above and beyond my imagination! I couldn’t have pulled off this styled shoot without her.
When the day arrived, I was a bundle of nerves. I was in such disbelief that this big thing we had been planning for almost 2 years was finally happening! When I arrived at the Lookout at Hope Lake, I was in awe of the venue. It’s a beautiful space, and the decor and styling Megan set up meshed perfectly. I was so excited to get started!
We kicked things off with some easy poses for our models, Shawna and Adam. I took some time to carefully arrange all of our gorgeous details into a lay flat, then thoroughly documented Megan’s drool-worthy tablescape, all while Sarah took photos of me. I grabbed a few photos of Shawna and Adam at the head table before heading outside.
There was a storm brewing in the distance, and I loved the look of the storm clouds streaking across the sky, so I made sure to utilize them in the background before we lost the opportunity. Despite my love for the clouds, I was not loving the idea of getting rained on, but we got super lucky and the skies waited until after the shoot to open up.
Shawna changed into a second black wedding dress. They were both utterly stunning - it was impossible to choose a favorite! We weren’t the only ones swooning over Shawna’s look - Adam was dropping compliments all over the place (and rightfully so!).
The cake table was another gorgeous creation by Megan, topped by a towering black wedding cake from The Love Bean. I took some photos of Shawna and Adam cutting the cake while Sarah snapped pictures of me directing the scene.
Megan brought along a vintage mustard-yellow armchair from She Rents Vintage, which I just had to drag out into the field for some solo pictures of Shawna. We added her colorful bouquet and a black hat to complete the look.
It was starting to get dark, but I wanted to grab a few quick photos of the happy couple in front of the white barn windows. I never regret taking a few minutes to get those last few shots - oftentimes they’re some of my favorites, and these were no exception! I love how the warm light from the inside juxtaposed with the dark scene outside.
I honestly cannot thank everyone enough for their countless contributions to this styled shoot! Be sure and check out Sarah’s blog for a look at the shoot from her perspective, and visit the links below to show my amazing vendors some love!
