Margot + Simon's Non Traditional Wedding at RedBarn 20

As a wedding photographer, there’s nothing better than being invited to photograph at a new-to-you venue. You can walk into the event without preconceived notions or “must-have” shots, and just have fun creating something beautiful and unique for your client. I was so excited to find out that my first event at Windridge Estate RedBarn 20 would be Margot and Simon’s non traditional wedding! This duo always makes things so fun and effortless, I knew this day would be more of the same.

Emily and I arrived and quickly got to work taking some getting ready photos at the Farmer’s Cottage. Margot and Simon decided to buck conventional wedding garb and instead both wore red, with Margot donning a killer silky jumpsuit. Their first look took place under an ivy-covered pergola, which offered some shade and privacy for the sweet moment. Even though these two officially tied the knot in 2020, their excitement and nervous energy made this day feel so real and special.

I’ve been to RedBarn 20 a few times for workshops and vendor hangouts, so I already knew how stunning the grounds were, but it’s totally different when you have the run of the place all to yourself. My favorite locations were the stairs and hydrangea bushes. Margot suggested we take some pictures lounging inside the White Stone Barn, and I love how they turned out!

Once portraits were wrapped up, we spent some time just hanging out with friends and families, playing wedding yard games like bocce ball and Jenga. There’s nothing better than having the time and space to breathe and enjoy your wedding day with the people you love!

The rest of the guests arrived and everyone grabbed a glass of champagne for the outdoor wedding ceremony. Margot and Simon exchanged vows amongst the apple trees with a gorgeous blue sky as their backdrop. One of their friends read a love poem, and the ceremony ended with a kiss and a toast.

We moved right into the cocktail hour, where this close-knit group enjoyed drinks, wedding yard games, and plenty of bubbles. Simon kicked off dinner with a speech that was so heartfelt, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Once we were able to compose ourselves, we enjoyed a phenomenal 5-course meal with expertly-chosen beer and wine pairings courtesy Scratch Farmhouse Catering. Margot and Simon were so sweet to give Emily and me a seat at the table so we could enjoy the delicious food alongside their guests!

After dinner, I grabbed the happy couple for a few sunset photos in the goldenrod fields, followed by some near the pergola where they had their first look. It made for such a picturesque setting with the dark greenery and warm golden hour light.

Margot gave one final speech before dessert, detailing her and Simon’s journey together and thanking everyone for coming. But the party wasn’t over! After dessert, everyone circled up for a game of Ring on a String, which Margot’s family playns often. You put a ring on a piece of long string that everyone holds on to. One person stands in the middle and has to guess where the ring is as people move it and hide it underneath their hands. It turned into a spirited game with tons of laughter from everyone!

Thank you to Margot and Simon for having the bravery and insight to plan a non traditional wedding, and asking me to document it. Not only did it fit their personalities perfectly, it provided an evening of fun and community for their closest friends and family.
