Meghan + Alex’s Barn Wedding at Curtis Manor
When we arrived at Curtis Manor in Oswego NY for Meghan and Alex’s barn wedding, we got right to work setting up some detail shots, incorporating elegant touches of burgundy and dark greenery. Photographing the wedding day details is my favorite way to kick things off. It helps me to get into a creative mindset for the day while creating something that shows off the details that make your day unique!
Meghan and Alex were actually hanging out together when we arrived. Once we were done with all the detail shots, she helped him put his boutonniere on, then slipped away to get ready with her girls. I love that they weren’t afraid to see each other the morning of their wedding!
The getting ready space for Meghan and her Bridesmaids was lovely, with plenty of space and natural light. Her mom and friends helped her into her dress and veil, then it was time for the first look! There’s a small pond on the south edge of the property near a line of mature trees, which is where where I set up Alex for the first look. Meghan wasted no time making her way to her future husband, and when he turned around, the excitement between then was palpable. It was such a precious first look.
They had plans to share their vows privately before the ceremony, so they challenged each other to a game of Rock Paper Scissors to determine who got to go first. The wedding party listened on as Meghan read her vows, followed by Alex, and there was both laughter and tears from their small audience. We had some spare time before the ceremony, so we got the wedding party photos out of the way, then snapped a few of just the two of them in front of the willow trees. I’m so glad they had this time to spend together before everyone arrived.
The ceremony was held inside the barn, officiated by Meghan’s uncle. They stood in front of an arch draped in fabric and flowers, which was placed underneath a beautiful stained glass window. They exchanged rings and sealed their vows with a tequila shot and a kiss! After the ceremony, we did family photos outside, then the three of us wandered off to explore more of the property. I loved how much fun these two made everything - the smiles and loving embraces came easily.
As the reception began and Meghan and Alex made their entrance, guests twirled their napkins in the air, reminiscent of waving rally towels at a hockey game (which is a big thing for Meghan’s family). They went straight into their first dance, followed by parent dances and toasts. Once Meghan and Alex were done eating, we ran outside to catch the end of the sunset, which got better and better with each passing minute. They cut their cake - a simple two tier cake with an adorable figurine of their dog on the side, then everyone danced the night away.
When the night was almost done, Meghan and Alex shared one last dance in the empty barn, then everyone wished them off with a sparkler exit outside. This was such a fun day! I wish you both so much happiness as you start your lives together as husband and wife.
