Devorah + Nick’s Rainy Wedding at Tailwater Lodge
When thinking ahead to their big day, no Bride or Groom dreams of a rainy wedding. But Devorah and Nick’s fall wedding at Tailwater Lodge is proof that a little rain can’t stop you from having the best day ever. From their tented wedding ceremony overlooking the Salmon River with chandeliers hanging from above, to the way the rainy day gave their wedding reception the most luscious cozy vibe, the whole day was truly perfect in its own way.
When we arrived at Tailwater Lodge, we found the Bride and Groom taking full advantage of the venue’s amenities, with Nick and his guys hanging out in the gameroom, and Devorah and her ladies finishing up in the spa. I took a few minutes to put together some quick detail shots back in Devorah’s room before she arrived. Once she was all laced up in her dress, she read a card from Nick and opened a gift he had dropped off with a beautiful necklace inside.
While Devorah was getting ready, the guys were outside keeping an eye on the weather. Everyone was pretty determined to fulfill their plan for an outdoor wedding ceremony, even if it meant using the tent!
Once dressed, Devorah shared a super sweet father-daughter first look outside. Afterward, she gave a gift to her mom: a side-by-side replica of one of her mom’s wedding photos, with Devorah wearing her mom’s wedding dress. I helped with taking the photo in secret before their wedding day, so it was awesome to be there for the surprise! Devorah took great care to match the pose and even the bouquets in the photo.
The ceremony began, and Nick’s face lit up the moment he saw his soon-to-be wife walking down the aisle toward him. Per Jewish wedding tradition, Devorah and Nick’s moms both joined Devorah as they held hands and circled around Nick to start off the ceremony. I loved how Tailwater Lodge had the back panel of the tent pulled open so Devorah and Nick were standing in front of a backdrop of beautiful fall colors as they exchanged vows and rings. They signed the Ketubah, then Nick stomped on a glass before sealing their marriage with a kiss.
We managed to grab family, wedding party, and a few Bride & Groom photos outside before the rain picked up again. I took Devorah and Nick inside Tailwater Lodge, where we snapped some pictures by the fireplace, and a few more just outside the barn.
As the cocktail hour was wrapping up, Devorah changed into a separate reception dress, and Nick was so surprised! They entered their reception and kicked things off with their first dance. Afterward, they spent some time visiting every table so they could say hi and grab a photo. We enjoyed toasts and dinner, then they cut their cake. Devorah and Nick planned a special first dance for some friends of theirs who were married in 2020 and didn’t have a wedding reception. What a special moment!
The rest of the night was a true party. They had a cigar bar and caricatures for their guests, and Otto the Orange, the Syracuse University mascot, showed up! Devorah used to be a cheerleader there, so this was super fitting. Everyone came to the dance floor for the traditional Horah dance, and the happy couple was hoisted into the air on chairs, connected by a cloth napkin. The dance floor was electric the rest of the night, with tons of dancing and one special song chosen to be the last. I love staying until the end of the night and capturing all those moments!
Thank you Devorah and Nick for inviting me to document this extraordinary day. I wish you two so much happiness together!
